Brisbane Valley Rail Trail - Lowood Bandits

The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail is an old RailWay passage through the Brisbane Valley which was used between 1890s and eventually decommissioned in 1991. To pay tribute to the railway users from over 25 years ago, a group of bandits decided to lay rubber to the pavement and tempt fate with the harsh Australian outback.

The ride was slightly uphill into Coominyah with a bright sun shining in our face. We encountered creek crossings which were treated like a raceway, old rail parts and no snakes! We stopped, ate what looked like some grade 3 bristol stool chart bars and cruised all the way back into Lowood.

We stayed at Lowood Showgrounds which was pretty fantastic, even with the weird neighbors and strange site caretakers. Whilst we ate our dehydrated roast dinners, gathered phat stacks of monopoly cash and gazed for a few seconds at the bright stars pretending to join the dots to resolve our constellation confusion, we grew tired.... maybe even two tired.... :-S

Overnight it got to a chilly 8 degrees, which wouldn't have been so bad if you hadn't been warding off colds from fellow workers all week. I now think I'm beginning to get sick....

We journeyed into Fernvale which is the official start to the trail. The return back to Lowood was chilly and slightly up hill. I'm sure I wasn't the only one enjoying the heater in the car on the way home.

All up a fantastic few days in the saddle, with some excellent company.  Till next time!
