Bike, Beers and Bros – Light Line Road Bush Camp

When a group of cyclists take on cycle touring, there is nothing like taking on some serious climbing along with it. The trips crux, The Goat Track, certainly turned the weather in our favour.

The trip was focused on getting to Light Line Road before sundown, but we left plenty of time to enjoy the scenery along the way. Many muesli bars where consumed in various rest spots along the way. The only thing better would have been an ice cold beer.

As we approached the bottom of the Goat Track, checking out the mountain ranges along the way, we began preparing for a big climb. However, not long after we started the dirt track, we where already half way up! The last half was definitely the killer combo of gradient and a heavy load which had begun to really take its toll.

From the top of the goat track we had another few kilometers to ride before the slippery walk into the camp site. On arrival, i pulled from the depths of my bag, 4 Ice Cold Beers! There was much rejoicing.

Cheers! Note, the beer was in cans!

We proceeded to start the fire and setup camp. Thanks to Snot Rockets handy little wood cutter, we where able to cut some firewood into size. Legs On Fire pretty much lit the fire with his legs and we proceeded to eat dinner and talk shit.

The temperature was perfect for sleeping, right up until just before sunrise where it turned super cold. Thankfully no one was found naked trying to dig themselves into the ground due to hypothermia. There was a few MTB riders and walkers who past our camp at 6:30am… (insane people… its a Sunday!) We made coffee, ate porridge and mustered up the energy to go back down the mountain.

We had bolts fall off racks, and nails through tires, but never the less we made it down the goat track and back to samford for a coffee at The Shack, then all the way through to Ferny Grove. The moral was high and the feeling of achievement definitely made the journey back to Ferny Grove quite speedy.

Until next time lads!
